What you see – Located right behind the popular Good Luck Restaurant in Deccan Gymkhana is Prakash Eye Hospital in Pune. Built within a heritage bungalow the hospital is owned by renowned eye surgeon Madhavi Mehendale.
The waiting area is full of pictures and paintings made by the doctor Mehendale herself. She is a gold medalist in MBBS from Nagpur and has done her diploma and master’s degree from BJ Medical College along with related training abroad. She also writes for Sakal newspaper. Mehendale also carries out free eye check ups in villages along with doctors and social workers Abhay and Rani Bang.
What you get – Prakash Eye Hospital has state-of-the-art equipment which includes a well-equipped operation theatre, computerized eye check up, slit lamp for detailed eye check up, ultra sonography for eyes, diagnosis of various diseases and perimetry for visual field testing that checks the span of the vision to detect glaucoma. The also have a syneptophor for squint correction. Other than that it is also a microsurgery center where surgeries are carried out via microscope. Treatment for diabetic retinopathy is also offered.
The specialization of the doctor Mehendale is stitch-less cataract surgery with lens implant by phacoemulsification. In this method, the cataract is crushed with laser and then artificial lens is inserted. Prakash Eye Hospital also has visiting specialists for retina and squint treatment and an ophthalmologist.
The hospital offers day care services and offers their operation theatre to other eye specialists. They also have attached in-house spectacles showroom called Optic Glory with a full time qualified optometrist.
Our verdict – Prakash Eye Hospital is clean and well equipped. The doctor is soft spoken, courteous and worth recommending. Parking is a problem on this road.
