What you see - SIP Academy for Abacus training is registered in Limca Book of Records and is an ISO: 2000 certified organization. The founder of this Academy is Elvin Tham from Japan, and in India, this children skill development organization is headquartered in Chennai. In Pune they started a center with area partner Chittaranjan Shirodkar.
What you get – SIP stands for ‘sociable, intellectual and progressive’. Therefore with the age old concept of Abacus, the academy has integrated certain programs that help in the brain development of the child between 51/2 and 12 years of age. To complement the course the academy has systematic arrangement of trained instructors, conducive learning environment and personalized attention given to a batch of 10-15 students per class.
For kids who are 51/2 -7 years old they have an international professionally designed program called AMAL which means accelerated mental learning. The course components are brain gym which includes simple physical exercises that help in brain development, Abacus, color games, creative games, flash cards and more. This basic course introduces the child to simple Abacus.
For 7-12 year olds, in Abacus there are about 8 levels where each level is for about 3 months. The class is conducted once a week for two and a half hours. The first level is for foundation, the second for visualization, the third for multiplication and visualization, fourth for division, fifth for decimals and up till eighth there is integration of all the above.
The students of the academy participate in zonal, regional, national and international competitions every year. In fact two of their students, like Sejal Amrutkar have been world champions. They also have Grand module A, B and C in Abacus for higher levels. For kids in the 3rd or 4th standards they also have MI (Read ‘MY’) kid’s course which is a phonic based spoken English course to lead the child through a fun world of stories, songs, drama and rhymes.
The advantages of this course are many. Abacus integrated with brain gym and speed writing optimizes mental potential, improves concentration and calculation speed, removes mental blocks especially numerical phobia, builds confidence and self esteem. Due to arithmetic and problem solving abilities it helps the kids in future competitive examinations. Abacus is not only about improving mathematics in school but it keeps challenging your mind to think out of the box. Plus by traveling abroad and attending competitions the child gets a global perspective.
The fees for the basic course are Rs. 2,895 that includes registration fees while from second level onwards it costs about Rs. 2,020. The academy has a special bag and T-shirt allotted to its students.
Our verdict – SIP Academy is a member of Asia Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Research and Development Affiliation. Their programs are well received across the world with their motto being intelligence by fun yet informative methods. In fact cricketer Sreesanth also has learnt the concepts of Brain gym from their CEO Dinesh V in Chennai to improve his game.
