Sahaja Yoga from Mataji Nirmala Devi
What you see - Located on Kothrud road, this yoga center has bright colored walls and is housed in a uniquely structured bungalow. We were welcomed by Sahaja yogi Dharmendra Gupta who directed us to a hall where this form of yoga is practiced. The walls of the hall have elephants molded on them. You even see it painted with designs of traditional women. There is a huge garlanded photograph of Mataji Nirmala Devi on a pedestal. The incense sticks and lit diyas add to the divine feel.
What you get – Sahaja yoga means spontaneously bonding with your self. It is all about self realization. According to this practice one must accept Mataji as the incarnation of Goddess or Adishakti with whose help we can attain uplifting of the kundalini (spiritual energy). This energy is said to be located at the base of our spine.
MetroMela had a chance to experience it firsthand as well. What they typically ask you to do is to sit with your palms open and chant, “Mataji please give me realization” in front of her photo. As someone new to this belief, we did find it a little difficult to follow and experience.
Nonetheless, as far as the facts are concerned, the classes here are free of cost and are conducted everyday at 6 AM for old timers. But beginners who aspire to learn this kind of yoga can come in every Saturday at 6.30 PM. The halls are flocked with people from all over the world and it is suggested that you come in early to avoid the mad rush. For a beginner, to become a practitioner of Sahaja yoga, he/she needs to undergo three to four sessions.
Our verdict – In the end it is all about belief. So if you have experienced the positives of this type of meditation then you could go for it. Parking space at the center is limited.
Anytime between – 7 AM – 5 PM
